A pastel world

Heading back to Iceland and the endless days of Midsummer…

In southern Iceland, the sun does finally set, albeit it briefly at around midnight. At this point, the northern sky looks like a fiery sunset/sunrise. Look away from this to the south and you get a spectacular twilight glow like a pastel spectrum fading from yellow high above through to moody purple on the horizon.

The shot below is the view south over a calm Atlantic from the coast near Djupivogur. The clear sky was awash with colour reflecting off the sea to create a luminescent blue against which rocky reefs formed jagged silhouettes.
